Community Description

The Little Shuswap Indian Band (also Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band) is a First Nations band government of a community of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) Nation, located in the Central Interior region of British Columbia, Canada. Its main reserve is in Chase, British Columbia, sometimes marked Squilax on maps ("black bear" in the Shuswap language) is properly called Quaaout, and is on the shore of Little Shuswap Lake. The Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band seeks to become a strong self reliant community having Cultural and Traditional values to ensure a balanced and productive future for all members.

Creative and courageous financing has been the key to the progressive development that continues to take place at Little Shuswap. Strong management and leadership with clear vision make up the engine that drives the community forward.

Summary of Economic Development Agreements, Community Businesses and Joint Ventures

Little Shuswap Lake First Nation owns and operates four principle businesses, the Talking Rock Golf Course, the Quaaout Lodge, The Skwlax Airstrip, and the Skwlax Centre (a large highway stop and fuel centre on the Trans Canada Highway). Little Shuswap Lake has also engaged with the Provincial Government in several Forestry Agreements.
