Community Description

The Huu-ay-aht First Nations is a First Nations band government based on Pachena Bay about 300 km (190 mi) northwest of Victoria on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The Huu-ay-aht envision a strong, self-governing and self-reliant Nation. Iisaak will guide us as we work together to foster a safe, healthy and sustainable community; where our culture, language, spirituality and economy flourish for all.

Economic Development Background

Huu-ay-aht First Nation is a self-governing, modern treaty Nation whose lands are located in the Barclay Sound region on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Through its HFN Development Limited Partnership company, the Nation is interested in creating partnerships with companies they can develop a sound, sustainable and diverse economy that provides jobs and revenue for the Nation while preserving the traditional principals.

Summary of Economic Development Agreements, Community Businesses and Joint Ventures

Huu-ay-aht First Nation owns and operates the HFN Group of Businesses, which has interests in the hospitality, forestry, fisheries, management, aggregates, marina, and ecotourism sectors. The Nation is party to many Agreements with the Provincial Government through its involvement in the historic Maa-nulth Treaty, through which it gained significant freedom to pursue economic development ventures as an independent and self-governing Nation.
