Summary of Economic Development Agreements, Community Businesses and Joint Ventures

The key economic activities of the Wuikinuxv Nation include logging, salmon enhancement, commercial fishing and roe-on-kelp, and management of a tree farm license which focuses on harvesting, silviculture and watershed restoration. Development plans also include negotiations that would add volume to the existing tree farm licence by way of joint ventures. The Nation is looking to diversify its local economy by developing plans to promote bear viewing, a run-of-the-river power project and a heli-ski tenure. Wuikinuxv has the following agreements: Wuikinuxv Forest Consultation and Revenue Sharing Agreement (2015), Wuikinuxv First Nation Interim Measures Agreement (2007), Wuikinuxv First Nation Forestry Agreement (2004), Coastal First Nations Great Bear Initiatives Society LNG Benefits Agreement (2016), and the Coastal First Nations Great Bear Initiatives Society Letter of Understanding on Environmental Quality and LNG Developments on the North Coast, and Skills Training & Employment (2016).
