Community Description

The Ulkatcho First Nation is a Dakelh First Nations government in British Columbia Its offices are located in Anahim Lake, British Columbia at the western edge of the Chilcotin District. Its people are of the Ulkatchot’en ethnic group, a subgroup of the Carrier (Dakelh). Ulkatcho people have intermarried heavily with both Nuxalk and Chilcotin people and share territory in the Coast Range with the Nuxalk

Economic Development Background

Ulkatcho does not have an economic development department, but is still involved in a variety of economic development activities and agreements with external parties.

Summary of Economic Development Agreements, Community Businesses and Joint Ventures

Ulkatcho is party to a number of Forestry Consultation, Revenue Sharing, and Economic Opportunity Agreements with the Provincial Government. In 2012, it signed a Strategic Land Use Planning Agreement governing the area known as the Great Bear Rainforest, which allows it to apply for a variety of multi-source funding for advancing sustainable economic development projects in BC's central coast region.
