On Tuesday, August 9, 2016 British Columbia loss a lifelong leader and champion of First Nations Rights and Title, Chief Marjorie McRae, Gitanmaax.

“On behalf of the BC Assembly of First Nations, I send heartfelt sympathies and condolences toChief Marjorie McRae’s family and friends. I am deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. Chief Marjorie McRae was a committed and passionate champion of First Nations education and child welfare. She was a steadfast advocate and defender of our Aboriginal Title and rights. She will be forever missed by those in her community, her nation and beyond,” stated BC Regional Chief Shane Gottfriedson, “She was a leader that spoke firmly and on many occasions to ensure the perspective of her people were heard. She was very knowledgeable on the many issues we face as First Nations peoples and she always reminded us of setting our priorities on a grassroots level. With love and remembrance, I will keep her family and friends in my thoughts and prayers during this time.”
